On Wednesday 2nd of March the Albury Swim Centre was a sea of colour and movement with the running of the third annual Albury Wodonga Big Splash.

This year’s event saw 116 teams register. These were mainly made up of school groups, sporting clubs, businesses and a variety of community groups from both sides of the border.

In addition to the over 500 swimmers who participated, a large number of spectators also came along on the night to lend their support. This, and the vast array of colourful costumes on display, certainly helped to create a wonderfully festive atmosphere.

BMG has had a proud association with the Big Splash since the first event was held in 2014. BMG Director, Stephen Mamouney, is one of the founding members of the Organising Committee. “So many people give up their time and energy to make the Big Splash happen and I’m just thrilled to see the level of support for it growing each year,” says Stephen. “The BMG team really embrace it and get right into the spirit of the event, which is fantastic.”

“While we do have a very lean organising committee, we do receive tremendous support from a number of people and organisations in the community,” continues Stephen. “The Albury Water Polo Club, Albury Amateur Swimming Club and Albury West Rotary are particularly supportive, as is the major sponsor, the Hume Bank.”

This year’s event raised over $15,000. This money will be shared between the Albury Wodonga head space facility and the Survivors of Suicide and Friends organisation.

“Since we started the Big Splash back in 2014, we have raised over $40,000. I think this is an incredible result and something the region should be very proud of. When you think about the tragedy that precipitated this event, it is nice to know that something so positive could come out of something so sad,” says Stephen.

The team BMG is very proud to be associated with the Big Splash and is already looking forwarding to jumping in again next year to lend their support to this great cause.
